About Dr. and Mrs. Walder

Walder Education is dedicated by Dr. Josef and Mrs. Shira Malka Walder in loving memory of his dear parents Martin and Gertrude Walder.

Since earning his M.D. and PhD degrees from Northwestern University, Dr. Walder has stayed on the cutting edge of medical technology, both in his academic pursuits as a professor at the University of Iowa and in his business pursuits as the head of Integrated DNA Technologies, Inc. (IDT). Under Dr. Walder’s supervision, IDT has grown from a fledgling enterprise to the largest supplier of synthetic nucleic acids in the United States, with nearly 500 employees. Dr. Walder is a great champion of Jewish charities and is especially dedicated to raising the standards of Chinuch throughout the world, and has thus founded Walder Education.

By cultivating relationships with key constituencies, Shira Malka Walder has developed Immigration Law Associates, P.C. into one of the largest law firms in the Chicagoland area dedicated exclusively to the practice of immigration law. She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the American Bar Association (ABA), the Illinois State Bar Association (IBSA), and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).

“In Judaism, giving to others is not only an act of generosity but really a requirement, an obligation upon the individual who is fortunate enough to have resources to help others.” This guiding principle underlies the relationship that Dr. Walder and his wife Shira Malka have developed with the center and numerous other educational and charitable organizations in the United States and Israel.
