This Shavuos button board is the ideal sensory and fine motor activity for young students. Adorned with colorful buttons on a lush velvet background, children will love to match the color of each felt Torah piece to the color of each button, while practicing their buttoning skills.

Goals and Objectives: The student will button each colored felt Torah piece, matching it to its corresponding colored button. The student will reinforce his/her color recognition skills while mastering his/her buttoning abilities.
Skills Needed: Fine motor skills to be able to manipulate felt pieces and buttons
Skills Developed: The student will develop theirhand dexterity, hand control, eye-hand coordination, tactile discrimination, focus on task, comparative behavior skills.

  • Board of any hard substance such as wood or plastic or foam board. The size of the board is determined by how many buttons you want the students to button. In the case of the button board presented here the size is 12 inches long x 18 inches wide.
  • Velvet to cover board
  • 1 ½ inches diameter colorful buttons. We used 6 buttons.
  • Colored felt pieces to cut into Torah shapes – approximately 5 inches x 5 inches. The colors should match the colors of the buttons.
  • Thread or yarn to sew the buttons onto the velvet.
  • Tacky glue or double-face tape to adhere the velvet to the board.
  • Torah die cut of appropriate size or use the Torah template that is provided.
