Use these table runners or matzah covers to spark conversation at the Seder table and encourage intergenerational discussions about the story, concepts, and family customs relating to the holiday of Pesach. Students will design and color a table runner or matzah cover using one or all of three techniques: Bleeding Tissue Paper, Tulip Fabric Paint, or Silk Paint.

Students will reflect on/review the story and concepts relating to Pesach.

Students will identify one or more Pesach customs particular to their family.

Students will demonstrate the ability to use various painting, drawing, and/or collage techniques to create their unique interpretations and feelings about Pesach.

Skills Needed:

color blending, stenciling, self-expression, design planning, perseverance, confidence, observation, organization

All Options:

Wax paper to protect surface while working
Scotch tape or masking tape for holding wax paper in place
Paper for sketching and planning design
Pencils

Ivory satin table runner (12” x 108”) or Ivory satin table napkin(20” x 20”)
Tacky Glue
Kosher salt
Fabric trimand/or Fabric Trim
Flowers
Sharpie permanent markers in desired colors
Die cut Hebrew letter shapes (for example, פ,ס,ח) or negative space letter shapes created from the cutout letters
Optional: Tulip fabric paint and foam brush if using negative space letter shapes
Spray bottles 16 oz.
Water (for spray bottle
