Making Music With Water

After the Bnei Yisrael crossed the Yam Suf they sang a song of praise to Hashem. This lesson incorporates both the water of the sea and the music of that song. By filling glasses with varying levels of water your students will hear different tones as they tap the glasses with a stick.

Goals and Objectives: Students will create music by hitting the water glasses with a stick. They will compare the tones and discover that the glasses with more water will emit the deepest tone, while the glasses with less water will cause higher tones. Students will attribute the sounds to the vibrations that create sound waves that travel through water when the glasses are struck.
Skills Needed: focus on task, ability to follow instructions, fine motor skills
